About
We started where the spreadsheets ended.
We kept saying someone should make this. Eventually, we did.
How we got here
The spreadsheet that started it.
It started with a maintenance spreadsheet that never made it past the second tab. Then a Notes app. Then a glove box stuffed with oil change receipts, brake job invoices, and one cryptic note that said "torque ?? — call shop."
Somewhere between the third missed timing belt and a twenty-year-old forum thread that still had better documentation than anything we'd written ourselves, we realized: the tool for this should exist, and it doesn't.
So we built it. The thing we'd actually use.
What we believe
Three things we'll bet on.
01
Maintenance is respect.
Respect for the machine. Respect for whoever drives it next. The five minutes you spend logging an oil change is the closest you can get to honoring a thing you depend on every day. We built Gearboxe to make those five minutes worth doing.
02
Records are equity.
A car with a documented history is worth more — on the lot, in the listing, in the handoff to a family member. Your maintenance log is real value, and it should belong to you. Easy to keep, easy to transfer. Never locked in.
03
The boring stuff is the important stuff.
Torque specs. Oil weights. Service intervals. Brake fluid spec for an '04 Tacoma. The unglamorous parts of car ownership are where the real care happens. We sweat those details so your records are accurate enough to actually use.
The five pillars
G.E.A.R.S.
Five principles that shape every decision — what we ship, what we don't, and how we treat the people who trust us with their records.
Genuine
Built by people who keep their own logs. Every feature traces back to a real frustration in a real driveway. Not personas. Not focus groups.
Empowering
Tools, not guardrails. We give you the keys and trust you to know what you're doing. No nags, no "are you sure?" gates between you and a logged service.
Accurate
A reminder that says "due soon" is useless. A reminder that says "due in 1,432 miles" is a plan. We sweat specifics so your data doesn't drift.
Resilient
The records have to outlast the platform. Export them, transfer them, take them with you when you sell the car. We're building something to keep, not a subscription to feed.
Shared
The best maintenance knowledge has always been passed down — neighbor to neighbor, forum to forum, group chat to group chat. We built that part in, instead of working around it.
The garage
A small crew, real hands.
Gearboxe is built by a small team of drivers, builders, and wrench-turners. We're working on faces and bios for this page — until then, the easiest way to get to know us is to send a note.
